TEXT  NUMBERS 17:6-8

[6]And Moses spake unto the children of Israel, and every one of their princes gave him a rod apiece, for each prince one, according to their fathers' houses, even twelve rods: and the rod of Aaron was among their rods.

[7]And Moses laid up the rods before the LORD in the tabernacle of witness.

[8]And it came to pass, that on the morrow Moses went into the tabernacle of witness; and, behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and brought forth buds, and bloomed blossoms, and yielded almonds.

The rod of Aaron was a dry stick.

It was like a Sheppard's rod, some rods had been in use for Shepherding for over sixty years.

Such sticks were taken from the twelve tribes of Israel and placed at the altar and in the morning of the next day, Aaron's rod had budded.

Our God is a God of wonder.

Malachi 3:18

"Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not."

You will receive an overnight miracle over that issue of concern in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.

[22]Then said Elijah unto the people, I, even I only, remain a prophet of the LORD; but Baal's prophets are four hundred and fifty men.

[23]Let them therefore give us two bullocks; and let them choose one bullock for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under: and I will dress the other bullock, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under:

[24]And call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the LORD: and the God that answereth by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered and said, It is well spoken.

Beloved, Elijah was not speaking with his friends.

This contest was a zero sum one, the looser looses his life also.

What was it that persuaded Elijah to make that boast in the name of Jehovah.

He was not a man of two opinions.

This means, his faith was in shape.

God was his option number one, two and three.

[19]And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

Beloved, have you noticed that results from this command looks as if it's selective, but it is not.

God hates unbelief and honours our faith.

The Lord said, "I will give unto you the keys of the kingdom of Heaven: and whatever you shall bind on earth shall be bound in Heaven".

So much power in the hands of a mortal man.

Absolute power to change his circumstances and that of his environment.

If you are not commanding this dimension of power, become unrelenting and refuse to give up.

[12]Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.

Unbelief is a spirit that causes hardness of spirit and backsliding.

It is also call the spirit of Evil heart of unbelief.

The spirit of unbelief grieves God because it causes men to doubt God and end up in destruction.

God Himself takes away their peace, not the devil.

A heart filled with unbelief takes you far away from God.

Hebrews 3:12

"Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God"

What was it that these men heard that compelled them to happily surrender their lives?

What did they see that we are no longer seeing?

What type of Holy spirit where they relating with that made them die completely to the flesh in order to see the smiling face of the crucified Jesus?

Is there today a new Holy spirit, are the pages they read torn off the bible?

The saints of today are not even ready to lay down their time not to talk off their lives.

Oh saints, where art thy faith, I mean the pure faith that made the gospel living and active?

Unbelief is a magnet that attracts defeat and failures to our lives.

[24]And she went forth, and said unto her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist.

[25]And she came in straightway with haste unto the king, and asked, saying, I will that thou give me by and by in a charger the head of John the Baptist.

[26]And the king was exceeding sorry; yet for his oath's sake, and for their sakes which sat with him, he would not reject her.

[27]And immediately the king sent an executioner, and commanded his head to be brought: and he went and beheaded him in the prison,

[28]And brought his head in a charger, and gave it to the damsel: and the damsel gave it to her mother.

High prophet John the Baptist lost his head to the request of a delinquent girl.

He lost it when he lost his faith.

Remember, John sent his disciples to ask Jesus if He was actually the Lord or whether he should expect another.

Our Lord made effort to reassure him that all was well, that the only problem was his unbelief and that he should refuse to permit offence to enter into his spirit.

John was greater than Elijah and Elisha in spiritual ranking yet a troop could neither subdue Elijah nor Elisha.

If only you believe, nothing shall be impossible to you.

[23]Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.

Beloved, this man had brought his tormented child to Jesus' disciples for help, but they could not help him.

Amidst all the reasons for their failure to drive out the devil, the most pronounced is " because of of your unbelieve".

Unbelieve is the biggest harm a believer can bring to himself. 

In Matthew 17:19-20, Jesus told them that they failed because of their unbelieve.

"Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?

And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you."

God has never lied.

He spoke these words and He means what He said.

"Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath:

]That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us"

Dearly beloved, the scripture said that the expectation or hope of the poor shall not perish.

Poor here does not refer to financial lack but to whatever is overwhelming when compared to your human capacity.

God is saying that He will honor your hope that you have placed in Him.

The Psalmist ended the narrative by reminding God that our enemies should not prevail when our hope is placed in Him.

[6]O my God, my life is cast down upon me [and I find the burden more than I can bear]; therefore will I [earnestly] remember You from the land of the Jordan [River] and the [summits of Mount] Hermon, from the little mountain Mizar.

[7][Roaring] deep calls to [roaring] deep at the thunder of Your waterspouts; all Your breakers and Your rolling waves have gone over me.

[8]Yet the Lord will command His loving-kindness in the daytime, and in the night His song shall be with me, a prayer to the God of my life.

Hope in God means waiting expectantly.

It means waiting with a knowingness that that God must surely answer.

Even when you find that the burden seems more than you can bear, your trust in God will change your position.

Never lose hope.

The worst thing that can happen to you as a child of God is to lose hope.

The biggest assignment Satan has concerning your life is to paint a picture of hopelessness for you.

From where we read today, we can see that there is hope for a tree even though it's been cut down that it will sprout again and that the tender branch will not cease.

If there is hope for a tree, how much more you?

You may not even be able to understand what is happening to you, but if you put your hope in God, you will come out victoriously.

Hope is the antidote for shame.

It is the final cure for shame.

To possess hope is to be dispossessed of shame.

It is a spiritual truth that clothes our nakedness from reproach and shame in life.

He who serves God diligently can never be put to shame no matter how much the devil tries.

If devil cannot take your eyes of God, he cannot clothe you with shame.

TEXT   PROVERBS 10:28

[28]The hope of the righteous shall be gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.

Hope keeps the tap of joy flowing.

You cannot be hopeful and be "sad-full".

You become sad-full when you have lost your hope.

Anywhere you see hope, you will see joy.

If your joy is dying, it is because your hope is drying off.

Never forget that whatever affects your hope will affect your joy.

It is with joy that you draw water out of the well of life.

[17](As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.

[18]Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.

[19]And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara's womb:

[20]He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;

Hope is the bedrock of faith because faith is the substance of what we hope for.

If you remove hope, faith becomes helpless.

Nobody can be in faith without hope.

Faith starts to make sense when there is hope.

The scarcity of hope is the bankruptcy of faith.

Hope is the magnet that draws help from God.

Hope in God attracts help from God.

As long as your hope is in place, your help is on the way.

Beloved, everybody is not equally helped because everybody does not hope equally.

TEXT  EXODUS 12:29-31

[29]And it came to pass, that at midnight the LORD smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sat on his throne unto the firstborn of the captive that was in the dungeon; and all the firstborn of cattle.

[30]And Pharaoh rose up in the night, he, and all his servants, and all the Egyptians; and there was a great cry in Egypt; for there was not a house where there was not one dead.

[31]And he called for Moses and Aaron by night, and said, Rise up, and get you forth from among my people, both ye and the children of Israel; and go, serve the LORD, as ye have said.

Early this morning, God brought judgement against all that held you down, stole from you.

Just like they refused to let Israel go and were all drowned, by the time you are reading this devotional today, all your pursuers are already drowned in the ocean of the cross over in Jesus mighty name.

God said that His children will not go empty handed but shall be favored by the same people who enslaved them.

You are waking up a favoured child of God.

Celebrate this new year with confidence in your Christ purchased freedom.
