TOPIC : UNDERSTANDING LOYALTY
(Special edition)
TEXT: 1 KINGS 19:14-21
VISIONAL CONTINUITY
Let us exermine the loyalty of Elisha.
God told Elijah to anoint Elisha to take over from him. 1 Kings 19:16.
At the time God asked Elijah to anoint Elisha as a prophet in his room, he already had a servant he left at Judah. 1 Kings 19:3.
The question now is why should God choose Elisha over Elijah's own chosen servant?
It is likely that the following loyal qualities in Elisha provoked God to choose him over the first servant. It is also very important to weigh these qualities found in Elisha against those in the one we see as our successors.
1. He was forceful.
Elijah wanted to leave Elisha at Gilgal like he left the first servant at Judah but Elisha unlike the first servant forcefully disagreed. And Elijah said unto Elisha, Tarry here, I pray you; for the LORD has sent me to Bethel. And Elisha said unto him, As the LORD lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you. So they went down to Bethel - 2 Kings 2:2.
2. He was resolute
When Elisha encountered Elijah he destroyed all his farming implements and followed Elijah fully. And he returned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen, and slew them, and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen, and gave unto the people, and they did eat. Then he arose, and went after Elijah, and ministered unto him - 1Kings 19:21.
3. He was a persuaded follower
Some student prophets tried to discourage Elisha three times to stop following Elijah but he was persuaded to follow his master to the end. That's what loyalty means. And the sons of the prophets that were at Bethel came forth to Elisha, and said unto him, Know you that the LORD will take away your master from your head to day? And he said, Yes, I know it; hold you your peace - 2 Kings 2:3.
Never forget this, loyalty is following your master even when all others give up.
God bless you.
With the God I serve, nothing shall be impossible.
Your case is not bigger than God.
May you have a God filled day in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
Your Victory is already guaranteed
It is well, do not give up, with God all things are possible
