TEXT 2 SAMUEL 16:21-23
TOPIC : THE MAKING OF REBELS
[21]And Ahithophel said to Absalom, Go in to your father's concubines whom he has left to keep the house; and all Israel will hear that you are abhorred by your father. Then the hands of all who are with you will be made strong.
[22]So they spread for Absalom a tent on the top of the [king's] house, and Absalom went in to his father's harem in the sight of all Israel.
[23]And the counsel of Ahithophel in those days was as if a man had consulted the word of God; so was all Ahithophel's counsel considered both by David and by Absalom.
Ahitophel was one of King David's most trusted advisers.
Ahitophel's advice was like one straight from God's throne.
David even though as a prophet saw the death of Christ, he did not see that Ahitophel had left him.
The big question is, how did Absalom know that Ahitophel could be coopted into his rebellion?
This could be found in the chemistry of rebellion. The people who refuse to talk when they should talk are simply emitting magnetic energy, this energy communicates to the soon to become rebel that "we are with you".
Ahitophel was in the cabinet but had become David's enemy.
He hated David with passion.
From my studies, it is believed that Ahitophel was Bathsheba's grandfather and that Uriah was his grand son in law.
In 2 Samuel 23:34,
[34]Eliphelet son of Ahasbai, son of Maacah, Eliam son of Ahithophel of Giloh,.
Eliam was the father of Bathsheba, so when David murdered Uriah, he actually murdered Ahitophel's son in law.
From this point, Ahitophel would have confronted the king with his attrocities and gotten his response instead of remaining in that cabinet with mortal hatred.
Without his support, there might never have been the revolt by Absalom.
Beloved, Ahitophel and Absalom's shameful deaths would have been avoided if Ahitophel did not lend his hand in the betrayal.
The sin of angel Lucifer remained unforgiven because rebellion is witchcraft.
It comes with the gate of hell and it's target is to frustrate the invading kingdom of God.
The choice is yours.
