TEXT LUKE 11:1-4

THE PREVAILING POWER OF PRAYER.

[1]And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.

[2]And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.

[3]Give us day by day our daily bread.

[4]And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.

Beloved, were you not surprised when the disciples asked Jesus to teach them how to pray.

My first thought was, what else do they want to hear? Have they not been observing him?

The reason they asked Him to teach them how to pray was that they realized that His prayers generate instant answers.

They wanted similar results like Jesus so the needed to study His processes.

Prayer is not easy, it is very hard work.

Only very few really succeed praying as a lifestyle.

Jesus gave them the divine guidelines for prayers.

In this outline,they were expected to start with worship and end it with their petitions.

They also were not to bring their petitions before God unless they have forgiven all their enemies.

The master was also speaking to us when He gave them the guideline to prayer.

Beloved, as we begin to use this guideline, we will cease to lack results in Jesus mighty name.

THE PREVAILING POWER OF PRAYER.

[17]Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.

[18]And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.

Beloved, when we examine the exploits of Elijah, it often looks out of this world.

It is as if it was not done by a human being, but the book of James encourages us that if we can pray like Elijah, we can do the exploits that he did.

The life of Elijah demonstrated to us the very limits of what a human being can command to happen on earth.

His prayers suspended the rain from dropping from heaven for three years and six months.

When he prayed for rain, the earth received rain.

Beloved, what the Holy spirit wants us to learn from the life of Elijah is that if you can tarry in prayer, even our present storm would soon give way to a bright sunshine.

Our Lord Jesus prevailed over the forces of nature controlling this world by the force of prayer.

You too will dominate your world if you can pray.

THE PREVAILING POWER OF PRAYER

[1]And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;

[2]Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man:

[3]And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary.

[4]And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man;

[5]Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.

[6]And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith.

[7]And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?

Beloved, one of the biggest secret of answered prayers is the spirit of consistency.

Men/women who refuse to give up on requests in prayer never return without their requests being granted.

Prayer is a lifestyle of the prevailers.

It is the secret of the OVERCOMERS.

If an unjust judge would give justice because of his being constantly disturbed, our God who is good would grant you all your requests if you persist in prayer.

God sees your persistence as a great act of faith.

When He sees your knees regularly on the ground, His mercy is moved towards you.

He is not an unfeeling God.

He hears your cries for rescue.

If you refuse to give up, very soon, there will be no prayer point remaining in your life to be answered.

I see you becoming an intercessor for your generation in Jesus mighty name.

[11]If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?

[12]Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?

Beloved, the greatest people presently on this earth are the people whose knees have turned black and stiffened like that of a camel as a result of their prolonged hours in prayer.

These are the people who perfume the earth with the fragrances of Heaven.

These people are earthly aliens who bring the will of the father to the earth.

These men/and women are gods on this earth.

Whatever they ask is given to them and whatever they seek are found.

Our God is a father, He is a responsible father who will not give us less than the best for our lives.

If you begin to ask for anything now, in a short while your life will change so much that you will not recognize who you have become.

God said that His plans for you are plans of good not of evil, to grant you a great future.

This will happen, if only you can pray.

Dearly beloved, prayer is so important in the life of a christian.

Whenever devil finds a child of God whose life is devoid of prayers, he camps with him and gradually destroys such a person.

He does not stop at the person but he ensures that he tears down every good thing that the person has ever done.

Prayer is as simple as the Lord presented it.

Ask and it shall be given, seek and ye shall find.

If God's children ask not, they will have not.

When they have not, the ministry will experience hardship, obstacles that may ultimately hinder the plans of God for their ministry.

Paul speaking in 1 Timothy 2:1-2 said, 

"I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;"

When prayer starts becoming scarce, a desert is fast approaching.

When I say a desert, I mean the lack of everything that is good.

If you do not want to cry later, pray now.

THE PREVAILING POWER OF PRAYER

[23]And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely:

[24]Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks.

[25]And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.

[26]And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed.

The most important men God has on the earth are the men who God find early in the morning on their knees.

These are the men who have done the most for God.

God has great respect and honor for praying men and women.

God does not have many men who have a secret prayer life so when the few who have it pray, God shows off.

Paul and Silas were held incommunicado, their captors thought that they were finished.

They had no physical weapons to defend themselves, but the had the secret weapon of prayer.

When they prayed, the foundation of the prison was shaken by warrior from Heaven.

Their captors watched their chains broken off them.

As you begin to pray, even the ancient chains around you will begin to give way in Jesus mighty name.

The great apostle paul had so much depth in the knowledge of God.

He had so much assurance that when he made this statement, he actually declared that God would supply their need not his.

He knew that his own needs were completely taken care of by God.

God expects us to know by the book that our needs were also taken care off by the cross.

Jesus Christ even though He was rich, became poor that we may be rich.

Beloved, if you search the volume of the book, you will find convertible words that will establish your expectations in the earthly realm.

Truly our God will supply all our need accordingly to His riches in glory through Jesus Christ.

[14]So shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul: when thou hast found it, then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off.

Beloved, your expection is God's wisdom for the determination of where you get to in life.

Your expectation is the honey of your life.

It is the mental scriptural picture of your desire.

Without your expectations, there will be no manifestation of what you want.

Your expectation is a spiritual mystery that reacts with your inner man and draws towards you the exact thing that you hope for.

Lack of expectation is like setting out for a trip without a destination.

You will ultimately arrive at no where.

In this life, it is what you expect that you experience.

Remember that the desire of the righteous shall be granted (prob.10:24b).

Beloved, one of the greatest hope of the redeemed is the fact that everything will work out in his advantage.

This is the expectation of every child of God. It is indeed our great expectation, it reassures us that we cannot be disadvantaged in this world.

Everything on earth is under a celestial command to work in our favour.

Nature itself is under a divine command to work for our advantage.

Beloved, when you have this expectation, you become a man of Heaven dwelling on the earth. 

Such a man, can never be defeated.

[44]And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man's hand. And he said, Go up, say unto Ahab, Prepare thy chariot, and get thee down, that the rain stop thee not.

Elijah was praying for rain to fall after over three year of draught.

He sent his servant seven times to go and because he was expecting rain.

He understood the spiritual principles, "the expectations of the righteous cannot be cut off".

It's a divine principle that ensures the delivery of all things we hope for.

It is our expectation that drags our spiritual pictures into our realities.

Our dreams are not excluded from our lives.

Our dreams form a great part of the totality of our being.

This part of our being is powered by our expectation.

Your expectation is like a key to the other room of your destiny.

Beloved, our only chance of succeeding in this competition ridden world is to have our expectation graphically designed and kept permanently in our view.

If you ever forget your expectation, you will forfeit your reward.

Your expectation is the mystery that guarantees your victory in life.

It's the embodiment of your dreams and your hope.

Mark 11:24

"For this reason I am telling you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe (trust and be confident) that it is granted to you, and you will [get it]" (Mark 11:24).

If we pray without expectation, we are like players in a tournament without a goal post.

THE OVERWHELMING POWER OF SACRIFICE

[23]And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.

[24]Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

[25]He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.

Dearly beloved, our Lord Jesus taught many personal lessons about sacrifice.

In this place, He was teaching that nothing increases unless it is sown in order to take another nature.

Nothing is permitted to multiply until it receives another nature by a process of death.

The Lord gave us example with the corn which is sown a seed but is harvested in multiple of thousands.

Our lives are also exactly like that.

What we will amount to in live is the result of the level of sacrifice we are ready to do.

Anyone who is afraid to lay down his life by sacrifice is someone who will be permanently stunted in this life.

The principles of the scripture cannot be over-written by it's promises.

John 12:25 says

"Anyone who loves his life loses it, but anyone who hates his life in this world will keep it to life eternal. [Whoever has no love for, no concern for, no regard for his life here on earth, but despises it, preserves his life forever and ever.]"

Where ever you find yourself in this life, begin today to practice the act of laying it down.

Dearly beloved, our Lord Jesus made it clear to us that this sacrifice that cost Him  His life was a choice.

He was neither cajoled nor compelled.

He had the power to lay it down, and also to take it again.

 He was not forced.

It was His sacrifice towards the salvation of mankind.

It was a divine project with an eternal reward.

Have you ever heard the Holy spirit speaking to you about something to lay down?

If not, then God has not considered you matured enough to commit serious kingdom projects into your care.

THE OVERWHELMING POWER OF SACRIFICE

Our Lord Jesus revealed a deep truth here.

I always thought that love and grace was free but the Lord declared that His father loved Him because He layed down His life.

A major lesson here is that love comes at a cost and the cost is not cheap.

If the son's love came by the token of sacrifice, yours will not be different.

Your announcement to your world would be at the level of your sacrifice.

When the smoke from your sacrifice ascends to the throne of God, the whole power of Heaven is deployed to the earth for your advantage.

THE OVERWHELMING POWER OF SACRIFICE

[16]For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Dearly beloved, if God had sent angel Gabriel to come and die, it would have been a big seed, but not a sacrifice.

If He had sent angel Michael, it would have still been a big offering, but not a sacrifice.

If God had sacrificed either of these angels, He would be sacrificing these two out of His millions of angels.

A real sacrifice would almost feel as if there is fire burning on your head.

You are often giving out your most precious possession.

It therefore cannot be a joke.

Our highlighted scripture will not make real sense to you until you begin to place it in the right perspective.

For example, Johnson so loved his only car that he gave it to his priest.

Kelvin treasured his last dime so much that he gave it to a beggar that seemed hungry.

These people gave their last.

They gave out of their lack, not out of abundance.

Beloved, as you begin to plan how to surprise God this season, may God enable you in Jesus name.

THE OVERWHELMING POWER OF SACRIFICE

[24]Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

[25]For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.

Sacrifice is paying today to play tomorrow.

Many people play today and end up paying tomorrow.

Jesus said that those who try to save their lives, will lose it.

Yes, He was referring to the fact His  Father  can only be pleased  by faith.

For without faith, no one can please God.

Faith is not children's  game, it takes all in us have to work it out.

Faith is warfare, it is about a man seeing like God.

Faith opens in us an eye that sees the future which makes it possible for us to sacrifice having seen the unknown.

Always remember that a life of sacrifice is not lived by occasionally  giving things to God .

It is lived by giving God, oneself as a living sacrifice.

TEXT MATTHEW 16:24-25

THE OVERWHELMING POWER OF SACRIFICE

[24]Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

[25]For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.

Sacrifice is paying today to play tomorrow.

Many people play today and end up paying tomorrow.

Jesus said that those who try to save their lives, will lose it.

Yes, He means that you can only please God by faith.

For without faith, no one can please God.

Faith is not children's  gain, it takes all we have to work it out.

Faith is warfare, it is man seeing like God.

Faith opens in us an eye that sees the future which makes it easier for us to sacrifice unto our God.

A life of sacrifice is not lived by giving God   things once in a while.

It is lived by giving God, oneself as a living sacrifice.

TEXT MARK 8:34 -37

THE OVERWHELMING POWER OF SACRIFICE

[34]And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

[35]For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.

[36]For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?

[37]Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

Dearly beloved, the Lord Jesus said that whoever would follow Him, must deny himself.

What does it mean to deny yourself?

Following Jesus means disowning one"s self and giving allegiance to Christ alone.

This means giving Him allegiance down to the very depth of our being.

Is Jesus the Lord of your life or is He only a saviour in your life?

Christian maturity begins when Jesus ceases to be just a provider but becomes your Lord also.

It is when He becomes your Lord that you begin to live a life of sacrifice for Him.

It is only at this time that you can hear the voice of the spirit making radical requests from you.

Doing radical things  for Jesus is not carrying chairs on your head while dancing and disrupting the service.

It's about hearing dangerous instructions from God and performing them promptly when they come.

When was the last time God asked you to do something unique for Him?

TEXT LUKE 19:8-9

THE OVERWHELMING POWER OF SACRIFICE

[8]And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.

[9]And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham.

Zacchaeus was a great example to all who would want to live the sacrificial life in Christ.

He was a sinner who defrauded many people, but when he recieved Christ, he made a personal decision not to put the new wine into the old wine skin.

Many christians would not give up their sinful acquisitions for the kingdom of God.

They hold tightly to them and even build altars with such weak material.

Most of us would need to work on our characters.

Character is very key in the kingdom.

Character is like smoke that cannot be hidden.

Since our lives are the bibles that the unbelievers study, let us live so sacrificially that the body of Christ is not bruised or wounded because of our weaknesses.

TEXT 2 KINGS 3:25-27

THE OVERWHELMING POWER OF SACRIFICE

[25]And they beat down the cities, and on every good piece of land cast every man his stone, and filled it; and they stopped all the wells of water, and felled all the good trees: only in Kirharaseth left they the stones thereof; howbeit the slingers went about it, and smote it.

[26]And when the king of Moab saw that the battle was too sore for him, he took with him seven hundred men that drew swords, to break through even unto the king of Edom: but they could not.

[27]Then he took his eldest son that should have reigned in his stead, and offered him for a burnt offering upon the wall. And there was great indignation against Israel: and they departed from him, and returned to their own land.

King Mesha of Moab rebelled against Israel.

Jehoshaphat the King of Israel gathered a confederation of nations to war against Moab.

They consulted the great prophet Elisha who hears clearly from God and the Lord assured them of an easy victory.

They trounced Moab.

They beat down the city until no stone was on top of another.

At this point king Mesha took seven hundred of his elite force to break through the weakest point, but they could not.

He then took his son who was to succeed him on the throne and sacrificed him on the city walls.

Immediately after the sacrifice, God abandoned Israel and Israel withdrew.

What was it that made God withdraw?

God saw a mortal perform the type of sacrifice that no celestial had yet done. 

He was disappointed in His stingy people and had to withdraw from them.

 

And he said, Thus saith the LORD, Make this valley full of ditches.

For thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not see wind, neither shall ye see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, that ye may drink, both ye, and your cattle, and your beasts.

And this is but a light thing in the sight of the LORD: he will deliver the Moabites also into your hand.(2 kings 3:16-18)."

Beloved, never forget that spirits are divinely drawn to sacrifices and God is a spirit.

TEXT 2 SAMUEL 23:15-17

THE OVERWHELMING POWER OF SACRIFICE

[15]And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem, which is by the gate!

[16]And the three mighty men brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: nevertheless he would not drink thereof, but poured it out unto the LORD.

[17]And he said, Be it far from me, O LORD, that I should do this: is not this the blood of the men that went in jeopardy of their lives? therefore he would not drink it. These things did these three mighty men.

Dearly beloved, nothing demonstrates love like what one is ready to sacrifice.

We can confidently say that the proof of love is in the sacrifice.

These men were loyal and faithful men who overheard the desire of their leader and decided to bring pleasure to him.

These men risked their lives to please a mortal man.

How much can you risk to please an everlasting God?

How far would you be ready to go in order to bring pleasure to the one who laid down His life for you?

God raised you so that you can make Him known to your generation, do not disappoint Him.
